Ever love a food one day and then the next not be able to be in the same room as it?! Many newly pregnant moms know exactly what this feels like! Food aversions are a very common experience of pregnant mothers, especially during the first trimester. Normal hormonal changes, specifically increases in levels of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), may lead to a heightened sense of taste and smell (and in some cases nausea) that can lead to adverse feelings towards a variety of foods. Besides this being an unpleasant experience for the mother, it can also put the mom at risk for not eating enough of the nutrients needed to support the growth of both mom and baby.
